Things to Check before Applying (Computer-Related)

Supported Operating Systems

B FLET'S and FLET'S Hikari Next use the PPPoE communication protocol. Therefore, in order to use these services, your computer, or other terminal equipment, must support PPPoE.
FLET'S Hikari Premium services require a computer with an operating system that supports FLET'S Hikari Premium. Some computers may not be compatible with FLET'S Hikari Premium, so please check the table below.

It is necessary to adjust CTU settings in order to connect to the Internet. CTU settings can be adjusted in a Web browser. It is recommended that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 when adjusting CTU settings. Settings methods differ according to operating system and browser combinations, and a ✓ in the above table does not guarantee operation.

The Startup CD-ROM cannot be used for installation on Mac OS. CTU settings can only be adjusted using Safari 2.0 on Mac OS X (10.4) or Safari 3.0 on Mac OS X (10.5).

Hikari Denwa Usage Notes

Situations Where Hikari Denwa Cannot be Used

  • In order to use the Hikari Denwa service, a contract/charges for "FLET'S Hikari Next Family Type", "FLET'S Hikari Next Apartment Type", "FLET'S Hikari Premium Family Type", "FLET'S Hikari Premium Apartment Type", or "B FLET'S Apartment Type" is required.
  • A separately installation charge is required to use Hikari Denwa.
  • Calls placed via telecommunications providers using access prefixes such as 0039, and services such as Dial Q2 may be restricted.
  • Hikari Denwa is not available during power outages. Use a cellular phone/PHS/public telephone during a power outage.

Use Caution with the Following Telephones

When using telephones with ACR, LCR (automatic telephone company selection function)

  • You cannot make calls that specify a telecommunications provider from "Hikari Denwa".
    Therefore, the telephone's ACR (Super ACR, etc.) functions and functions which automatically assign a carrier prefix number (e.g. 0039 for NTT West) when calling a cellular phone cannot be used. (You may not be able to call from Hikari Denwa if these functions are operating.) Before using "Hikari Denwa", check if these functions are operating on the phone you're using, and if they are, stop or cancel the functions.
    In addition, when cancelling the ACR function, also make arrangements to cancel your contract with the ACR service provider.

About the Terminal Used

  • Hikari Denwa can be used by connecting a telephone to the Hikari Denwa VoIP terminal, but the following terminals cannot be used.
  • ISDN phones (i-trenby, others)
  • G4FAX machines
  • Telecommunications devices equipped with the emergency call system (senior citizens phone (Silver Phone Anshin Series), SL-series emergency call system telephones, others)

G3FAX machines and modem communication can be used, but the transmission quality may not be satisfactory depending on the communications environment. If the recipient is using an ISDN connection, fax services may not be available depending on settings at the recipient's end. You may not be able to use some telephones and other devices from a company other than NTT West.

When using a device from a company other than NTT West, inquire with the manufacturer. Even if the device can be used, an installation charge may be separately required.

Signal Monitoring Communication, No-ringing Communication & Other Services

  • As a general rule, when suspending NTT West's regular subscriber line service and similar services to use Hikari Denwa, the services provided by NTT West corresponding to the regular subscriber line or service being suspended (including additional services and discount services) are cancelled.

In particular, be aware that the following services, which are available with NTT West regular subscriber lines and other services, are not available with Hikari Denwa. Therefore you will not be able to continue using them.

- Signal monitoring communication (monitoring signal notification to a security company monitoring center)
- No-ringing communication (electricity/sewer/gas remote meter reading)
- Off-talk communication (information transmitted from an information center)

You may be able to use equivalent services with Hikari Denwa depending on the contracted provider. Please inform the contracted provider yourself that you are changing to Hikari Denwa.

Numbers Inaccessible with Hikari Denwa

Hikari Denwa differs from regular subscriber lines, in that there are telephone numbers that cannot be accessed from Hikari Denwa.

  • Hikari Denwa differs from regular subscriber lines and cannot connect to numbers listed in the list of inaccessible numbers below. Please use caution when applying for/using Hikari Denwa.
  • Calls placed via telecommunications providers using access prefixes such as 0039 cannot be made from Hikari Denwa.
  • You cannot make # dial (# + 4 digit number service) calls from Hikari Denwa.
  • You cannot call NTT DOCOMO satellite maritime telephones. The corresponding are listed below. (X can be any digit from 0 to 9.)

Subscription Rights Suspension

When using Hikari Denwa with the same telephone number as the regular subscriber line (excluding Light Plan) currently being used, NTT West will make arrangements to suspend services for your current regular subscriber line. Notice of service suspension is delivered about 1 week after the completion of service suspension work.

Service Suspension is a system where NTT West temporarily retains the rights to the telephone line. Along with the suspension of regular subscriber line service, for discount services which incur a flat charge and for other companies' telephone services, please contact them about the end of service. Use caution as charges may be incurred regardless of usage if you do not contact the service provider.

Restrictions

  • Hikari Denwa is not subject to MYLINE. If using Hikari Denwa with a telephone number inherited from a regular subscriber line, the MYLINE contract is cancelled.
  • Hikari Denwa is not eligible for toll-free, Free Access, or Credit Call services. (Calls to toll free numbers/Free Access numbers are possible.) However, you can use number portability to register the number to which toll-free/Free Access services are billed to the Free Access Hikari Wide service.
  • You cannot select the telephone company for international calls.
